some time interlocking some time non interlocking i am really confused

really this interlocking or non interlocking work create woes to the public as in 2014 this work was done in Ferozepur Cantt yard and it created a huge mess for people ,and now everything is great out here

but what exactly happens when this is done

After this process there is some amount of time is saved for coming in and going out of the trains from the station yard and sometimes the train which have to wait at outer for long is comparatively shortened . when you see around the station yard, you see cool and sweet red yellow(used as green) signal lights and hence bye bye semaphore signals system and manual changing of lines , All just go to the automatic level , everything goes on the push of the button
