The launch of the site and other such details are rather mundane and uninteresting. There is no specific "launch date", but since 2010 , we informally celebrate Aug 11 as the site's birthday. Otherwise, there is no exciting growth trajectory or other colourful things to write about. The site remains rather small and non-serious, focused on our RailFan community. On the face of it, there doesn't seem to be any material to fill in an "About Us" page.

However, we DO have a lot of RICH Social History, Myths, Legends, Evolution of our numerous Features, Admin appointments, Issues/Bugs, Outages, Legendary past Members and so forth, associated with IRI's past. Also, starting soon, we may organize (resource permitting) RailFan meets, which will only add to the above.

So yes, there is a lot of unconventional "About Us" material, which may make for interesting reading.

One of our Admins took the initiative and submitted an "About Us" page a few months ago. Other enterprising members have also submitted informal essays in the past.

We may create a compendium of the above, to kick off a separate "About Us" section. Thereafter, we shall allow members themselves to post their own reflections, nostalgia, when they joined the site, which members helped them the most and other tidbits to discuss in the new "About Us" section.

Many Many thanks for a personal reply. Are you really serious when saying that IRI is a small & non-serious site focussed on RFan Community only? Must be you are joking. As per my knowledge, IRI is BIG - really big in terms of RAIL Information - right from PNR predictions to latest news to travel tips to coach positions and what not?
And whatever you have mentioned here in the post and also those blogs that are related can make at least a 1000 word ABOUT US page, if not less.

I would stress upon the MODERATOR / ADMINS to come together and work on the 'About Us' page and launch it on 11th AUG 2015.

RESOURCE PERMITTING - Why can't IRI sign up for Google Adwords and start making some money and also use it as a resource for such activities in plan. I have seen an EDUCATIONAL Blog site that has a points system for every blog writer and it does share some revenue earned from google adwords based on points of a member. If you are interested in seeing the actual site mentioned above, I can provide the details of the same.
And can you please answer this query of mine - Is there any importance of IMG trains created & posted on IRI - Do they get noticed by IR authorities? - Thanks again.

Regarding IMG trains:
Our members are already very proficient and knowledgable about the TTs of the trains passing in the IR system. Already they were making informal TTs on spreadsheets, which were very much practical. The IMG section takes these skills and knowledge to a new dimension, and helps in actually visualizing new kinds of routes...

and trains, as if they were already introduced and running. We are not sure what tools are used by IR officials, but they are also welcome to use this section, to create new trains and TTs. Also coming soon, as we develop the X/O feature, the Track Slotting feature, etc. it may help in further creating practical TTs of future trains. We may even create animated games of the Imaginary Trains created by our members....

As with many of the site's experimental features, we don't exactly know where it will go or how it will evolve.
