Railway has max profit on AC3. BUT this is your misinformation that AC1/2 are running in losses. Many of SF trains dont even have AC1. You can calculate fare of AC2 coach yourself to clear confusion

I found this. 1st AC is having lowest loss. Though, you are partially right. I also stand corrected. But AC1/2 having some losses due to patronage/occupancy issue, free/confessional tickets instead of fare issue. Jitna AC Class ka loss hota hai use jyada ka neta log free mein 1st class travel kr lete hain.
IR rightly targetting major loss making classes.

Kindly read the text too. 1600 cr concession is given to various quotas. No AC classes will get loss at good occupancy without concession. Dont think IR will touch AC.

You are right. IR also dont want anyone to shift from AC3 to AC3E. Gap between SL and 3AC is too large. if 3ACE fare is made affordable for SL class pax, then IR wont be able to reduce losses & there is risk of 3AC pax shifting to 3ACE if high fare gap is there. So 3AC & 3ACE fare difference is kept less. Affordable AC ke chakkar mein IR ko barbad krne ki zarurat nhi hai. Unreserved AC class is better idea.
