Intercity Express (15719 & 15720), New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express (12042 & 12041), and Siliguri-Jogbani Intercity Express (15724), were cancelled. The New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) was rescheduled to depart at 12:00 hrs. The New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504), Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express (13176), and New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) were diverted. The West Bengal government criticized the Central Government for its alleged negligence toward railway safety.

The four trains canceled are the Katihar-Siliguri and Jogbani-Siliguri Intercity Expresses, along with the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express. Additionally, the route of the New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express has been adjusted. The Capital Express continues to operate on the Siliguri-New Jalpaiguri route. The Kanchanjungha Express accident occurred on Monday morning when a container-laden freight train collided with the train from behind near Rangapani station, approximately 30 kilometers from New Jalpaiguri station. The accident, resulting in the death of about a dozen passengers and injuries to many others, is suspected to have been caused by signal failure. The exact cause, however, will be determined after an investigation.
