BHUBANESWAR: People from 12 states, which are witnessing a spurt in fresh Covid cases, coming to Odisha by air or train will have to remain in home isolation for seven days, the government said on Friday. For passengers with visible symptoms, testing facilities have been opened at both airports and in all railway stations.
The health department on Friday wrote to the district collectors, municipal commissioners, directors of the Biju Patnaik International Airport and the Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda and the East Coast Railway’s (ECoR)’s general manager to ensure that the

necessary preparations are in place for the same.
The move comes amid a marginal rise in infection in Odisha as well. In the past four days, it has seen a steady increase in the infection count from 62 on Tuesday to 68 on Wednesday, 89 on Thursday and 94 on Friday.
“Precautionary measures need to be strictly implemented in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Any laxity can result in a resurgence of the pandemic in our state and ruin all our efforts over the months,” the government order said. While all returnees from these states will stay in home isolation irrespective of their health condition, anyone developing symptoms during the isolation period will be subjected to RT-PCR test. “If a passenger is found positive for Covid-19 during home isolation, he will be provided treatment as per the Covid protocol,” the letter further said. The government has laid emphasis on ramping up RT-PCR test in the districts, apart from generating awareness on a daily basis among the people.
Officials said the registration of passengers at the airport and the railway stations will be done to ensure home isolation. This will help track them. In the beginning of the pandemic in March last year, registration was being done at railway stations and special trains carrying migrants were coming here. The airport did registration for three months from June. As part of the governmen’t latest move, on-site testing of passengers will be done at airports and railway stations.
