This report also addressed speculation that the Railway might drop plans for a third line between Ernakulam and Shoranur in exchange for land sharing. The Railway has confirmed that the third line project remains on track. Furthermore, despite discussions with K-Rail officials, the Southern Railway maintains that the project lacks financial and technical feasibility, as noted by the Railway Minister in June 2020. A modified project report is still awaited. K-Rail has countered these claims by stating that they have provided all required details to the Southern Railway, including a land sketch. They have also asserted that there are no technical flaws in the project report and that the final decision regarding land sharing rests with the Railway Board.
