With regards to ticket-availability and timings of few trains. There are a total of 13 trains from Surat to Raipur. And an average of 3-5 trains per day(One train is special). And 6 trains depart from Surat on different days in the same time slot between 07:53-08:30. The other trains that operate in the latter halves, it is very difficult to get tickets in that train. Due to a family emergency, We had to book a train for tomorrow for Raipur. The only train that had the best time was Surat-Malda Town. Within 103 seconds, 97 seats were booked,(From AVBL 80 to TQWL 17) in Tatkal quota. And similarly, all the other trains tomorrow got booked within Two minutes. It's almost impossible to get a confirm ticket on this route, because of low frequency of trains and their very odd timings. Can they please run trains on different time, if not...

The new station option will not be easy. Inside the city, there's not much space to make a new station. If a new station is proposed, the best option would be to re-develop either one of Udhna, Sachin or Kosad, or perhaps make a new station towards Hazira, 25 minutes to the west of the Surat Railway Station. Re-developing Surat Station and increasing the no of platforms, looks like the possible option, although it may be the toughest thing to do.

So, if they are making the station world class, does that mean the station gets a few more platforms?

Surat Railway Station is massively overburdened. It is the 13th most busiest station of the country with a total of 288 halting trains. These 288 halting trains are controlled by 3 platforms only, as the 4th platform controls the trains that terminate/originate from Surat. 288 trains for 3 platform gives 96 trains on each platform. This station badly needs a redevelopment or new platforms as soon as possible.
