Yo, there's this article in today's Eenadu local Visakhapatnam page about Uday express getting cancelled all the damn time. They say it's off for 140 days, but in reality, it's been shut for like 280+ days - that's over 10 months in the last 14 months since June 16th, 2023, all for "safety works" and some 3rd line bs at Vijayawada from Gundala to VJA Bypass cabin. People are saying they're doing this just to make more folks take the Vande Bharat at Rs 960 with brekkie or Rs 820 without, instead of the Rs 540 AC chair car in Uday express. Uday express is supposed to be a budget train, but now it's getting cancelled all the time, pissing off the regular middle-class peeps who use it along with other trains in the Vskp Vja section.
Every day, Uday from Visakha sees like 400-600 folks onboard out of the 800-seat capacity. Around 100-150 hop in at Duvvada, Anakapalle, and Tuni, while 100 get off at TP Gudem and Eluru, and 300-400 are direct from Vskp to VJA. On the way back, it gets even more crowded 'cos there ain't many trains in the arvo after that Janmabhomi one at 1330. Uday leaving at 1715 gets like 650-800 travelers!
