Railways provides record rakes for ferrying coal to power plants in March

India's coal demand is rising due to increasing industrialization and household electricity consumption, leading to a surge in coal transportation by Indian Railways. In March 2024, railways transported an all-time high average of 297.7 rakes of coal per day for the power sector, representing a 2% month-on-month and 10% year-on-year increase....

The non-power sector saw a 11% m-o-m and 64% y-o-y rise in coal transportation. The government has initiated several plans to enhance coal transportation capacity, including new railway lines, infrastructure upgrades, and integration with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. These efforts aim to meet the projected peak demand of 260 GW in FY25, up from 240 GW in FY23. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, spanning 1337 km, will play a crucial role in facilitating faster coal transportation from eastern India to northern power plants.

2% aur previous year se 10% zyada hai. Non-power sector mein bhi coal transportation 11% m-o-m aur 64% y-o-y badha hai. Sarkar ne coal transportation capacity badhane ke liye kai plans shuru kiye hain, isme new railway lines, infrastructure upgrades aur PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan ka integration shamil hai. Isse FY25 mein peak demand 260 GW hone ki ummid hai, jo FY23 mein 240 GW thi. Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, jo 1337 km lamba hai, eastern India se northern power plants tak coal transport ko faster banane mein madad karega.
