The journey began with the Kashi Express on October 26, 1990, but the train was repeatedly stopped by authorities. The group was given a special code '7572' and had to change their plans due to the government's efforts to hinder their movement. They were forced to get off the train before reaching their destination and were guided to a specific spot by a light from a temple in the jungle. After facing various difficulties, including walking for six kilometers and crossing the Gomti river, the group was arrested near Ayodhya. They were held captive in a makeshift jail in Kadipur, where they were looked after by local residents and even met with the son of the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
