1.) Shri Ram Van Gaman Marg Jatayu Tirtham, Danushkodi - A tour to Rameshwaram offers tourists with many opportunities to spend some time amid spiritual surroundings and holy piousness of shrines which adorn this pilgrimage. Jatayu Theertham is among one of the important shrines in Rameshwaram. This temple is dedicated to Jatayu, considered to be the King of birds, who was an ardent and loyal devotee of Lord Rama.

The legend behind this temple is associated with instances from Hindu sacred text Ramayana. According to the religious beliefs, when demon Ravana had

kidnapped Goddess Sita, Jatayu had helped Lord Rama by fighting the demon. During the fight, Jatayu’s wings were slashed because of which it fell to the down and died. Afterwards, Lord Rama had buried the Jatayu body at the place where a temple stands now dedicated to Jatayu. it is said that the entire place where it was buried, turned into vibhuti, which is the holy ash that is obtained after the yagnas by the saints. It is also believed that Jatayu also helped in getting herbs from mountains to save Lord Rama’s life.

Although tourists visit this theertham throughout the year when on their Rameshwaram Tour, it is best to plan your visit to Jatayu Theertham Temple during the months of October to April. It is a peaceful shrine where devotees can spend some time quietly after offering their prayers.

2) Sarva Roga Nivarana Theertha, Danushkodi - Ashtaboothi , the brahmana got married to Suseendhra and they both were leading a peaceful married life in Panchala. Later, Sussendhra gave birth to a baby boy. Unfortunately, the child was born with severe disease.

As days passed, there was no relief from that fatal disease. Poor parents travelled across the country and met many vaithiyas ( doctors in sanskrit ) but there was no luck for that parents.

Due to the continuous travelling and extreme sadness about his baby, Ashtaboothi felt exhausted and died suddenly. By losing husband, suseendhra felt sick and didn’t eat at all for so long. She fainted due to starving for so many days. She almost lost all her energy to survive in this world without her husband.

By seeing all the incidents, Lord parameshwara was unable to bear the pain of his beloved devotee Suseendhra. So he dressed himself as a Saint and tried helping suseendhra to get out of that dizziness.

Lord Parameshwara decided to help his follower suseendhra as he knew her pain completely. So, he advised her to go to Ganda madhana parvatha( popularly known as Rameshwaram). And told her to share all the sorrows to his beloved wife Parameshwari who usually visits that place during amavasya period for taking bath in Sethu theertha and she stays near jadamagudha theertha under the tree.

By following the lord Parameswaran’s advice, Suseendhra reached Ganda madhana parvatha during the Amavasya period and waited for Lord Parameshwari. When the goddess appeared, Suseendhra worshipped and explained all her problems. As a solution, Lord Parameshwari poked her divine spear( ‘Vel’ in Tamil) to the ground and created a holy theertha. After taking a bath in this theertha Baby’s fatal disease cured and he became healthy.

Sick people will get relief from any fatal disease when performs a bath in this theertha after praying Lord Parameshwari.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
