* Aerial distance between Pune and Nashik cities is 170kms and road distance is 210 kms. New rail line of 214 km route length is OK, but 248km long route appears to be too long. Earlier a route length of 265km was reported.
* With no big/medium city falling on the route, ideally a new passenger rly line should be planned to follow shortest (the straighter) possible route. With advanced technologies available today, the route length should be shorter (Say about 180-200 kms) than road route which was probably constructed a century ago.

This line initially planned via Dehu-Rajgurunagar-Nashik, now they are saying Talegaon-Nashik, quiet interesting, it will increase distance
Straight route not possible due to hilly terrain.
It's 214 Km only + 34 Km new line to Talegaon from Pune.
