* Aerial distance between Pune and Nashik cities is 170kms and road distance is 210 kms. New rail line of 214 km route length is OK, but 248km long route appears to be too long. Earlier a route length of 265km was reported.
* With no big/medium city falling on the route, ideally a new passenger rly line should be planned to follow shortest (the straighter) possible route. With advanced technologies available today, the route length should be shorter (Say about 180-200 kms) than road route which was probably constructed a century ago.

* A 200kmph 248km long double rail line between Nashik-Pune instead of traditional 160 kmph 214 km long single line may not be of much use as
above 130kmph coaches have to be air conditioned and there is little ac class traffic between the 2 cities.
* Major pax traffic shall be of non ac class and a rail line which can permit 130/160kmph operation of train (which is current standard for main rail line of IR) shall be good enough.
*
...
IR shall apply flexifare to these 200kmph trains as a policy matter and occupancy of the trains shall be rock kottom
* Revenue generation from freight Operation is the biggest financial support to justify the construction of Rly line and operation of Freight trains and 200kmph trains on same track is not advisable form operational safety
* Capacity utilisation of a 200kmph Semi High Speed double track and revenue generation is likely to be too low. Initially, single line should be good enough which may be doubled in future as and when traffic increase

Straight route not possible due to hilly terrain.
It's 214 Km only + 34 Km new line to Talegaon from Pune.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
