* Antyoday, the Premium general train should be the first target to reserve the seats in general coaches.
* Situation of IR is pathetic, the much needed increment in base fare of general class is just not allowed by their political masters and they are forced to go for such ridiculous things like converting as passenger train to express train without commensurate speeding up and stoppage reduction, in addition to plethora of indirect revenue increment measures and now converting all the general seats into reserved seats with extra payment of reservation charge!
*...
more... Economics of the reservation of the general coach seats is very interesting. Average distance travelled a passenger of a General coach of an express train is very less as compared to SL, ACIII, ACII etc classes say 100-200 kms against which should be Rs.15/-.
* For MAS-TPTY 136kms journey in General class ME fare is Rs 65 which now shall become 80, i.e. increase of about 23%
* For MAS-TPTY 136 km journey in General class the base fare is just Rs 30.and a levy of reservation charge of Rs 15 may lead to 50% rise!!
* What about the 2 upper berths in each coupe of the general coaches??
* what about paxs who do not get reservation in the "reserved general coaches"?? There will be chaos at railway stations a if large number of paxs ar denied the general tickets.
* There is a very good idea for IR, if they really want to increase the revenue without increasing second class base fares and at the same time don't not want to deny general class ticket to the passengers. In future, IR should construct all the non ac general coaches in double decker design only. The upper deck seats can be reserved and the lower deck should be unreserved in all the non ac DD coaches.
