Not a big deal as indicated by history of democracy and congress party in India.
(1) India became Independent in 1947 due to changing world order (fall of Britain as world super power in World War-II), changes in internal governance of Britain, violent opposition by revolutionary leaders and peaceful dialogues/protests by the leaders of Indian National Congress (INC) & other organisations. Outgoing colonial rulers decided to hand over the reign of India (after separating Pakistan) to INC, which was the biggest organization which used to deal with them, and acted as a bridge between them and the revolutionary pro-independence leaders, who resorted to violence against British Govt.
(2) After...
more... getting independence, Mahatma Gandhi desired to dissolve INC, which was formed with a motive to free India from British Rule and not to rule India. But some opportunitist leaders in INC acted against their leader and grabbed the opportunity and became rulers. That was the moment when character of the popular Congress leadership changed from from nationalist to opportunitist. They high-jacked the goodwill of Indian public earned by the INC in pro independence movement, and continued to rule for decades. After death of Mahatma Gandhi, the INC with rich tradition of internal democracy within the party, was high jacked by the chief. The great INC, which played a vital role in Indian independence movement, gradually got converted into a dynasty.
(3) During colonial rule, the word “politician/leader” meant a person selflessly dedicated to struggle for the independence of nation. But in independent India, the definition gradually changed to a selfish person, who use the nation, its properties, laws and people to fulfil his ambitions of enjoying power, & money.
(4) To remain in power for ever and to and to earn huge money, all kind of wrong practices like taking help of goons, booth capturing, bribing people by distributing-liquor, things, currencies etc. were resorted to during the elections. Today parties openly bribe a particular section of people to vote for them, by declaring loan waiver, distribution of freebies, reservation in jobs/education etc for them when their party come to power! To solve a problem, they often take steps which later on create an even bigger problem, which again give them opportunity to take more such steps.
(5) One of congress PM tried to become a dictator by declaring emergency, to avoid imminent arrest and loss of power due to ongoing case in a High Court.
(6) One of the congress CMs, when defeated in assembly elections, dishonoured the election results and tried to make mockery of democracy by trying to bribe the MLAs of party winning the election.
(7) Recent role as opposition during demonetisation, during farmer unrest was only to aggravate the problem and take political advantage instead of helping the troubled persons. Video recently broadcasted in media, where one of the opposition MLAs is openly instigating the farmers/public to burn police station, is a burning example of how responsible opposition party leaders are towards their nation.
(8) Now ignoring the warning of police, they organize their public agitation/rally close to track which is may cause large scale injuries/deaths of persons in event of being run over by a moving train. Such accidents have happened in IR in past. But probably the opposition sees opportunity to blame the govt, incite public for agitation/violence, further fuel the fire, and roast their political chapatis.
