Halt station - Usually each station has some length of route before and after the station for which the signalling is controlled from the station. Within this 'block', all movements are handled by the station's signal boxes. A 'halt' station is a small station between two regular stations which does not have any signalling control like this. The station won't have any signal boxes or won't have any signals under it's control. And usually the train's guard gives the signal for the train. Usually these are small villages or small stations within a large city where the signalling is controlled from the main central station.
