So a new day starts with another derailment. Another day of lost lives for no apparent reason. Seems like the government doesn't care a bit about people's lives. Incompetence at its peak. A new accident every second day, it is crucial to mention that most of the zones are delaying trains in the name of maintenance. Gods know what maintenance they're doing.

Be it a train moving at 130kmph or 70kmph or even a stationary train, nothing is safe nowadays. People booking a train are not even sure if they'll safely reach

their destination. Where is the RM? He forgot to do his usual on-camera drama after the Gonda accident. I doubt he'll bother even saying anything about the incident, let alone take any responsibility.

Mission Raftar on papers with massive slowdowns and undue extensions. ZBTT, with a plethora of political halts, even Rajdhanis, aren't spared. Shabbily maintained coaches and unpalatable food on premium trains. Long hours of delays and a string of accidents. The 'Amrit Kaal' of Indian Railways.

Our government doesn't care about human lives, that's evident. But they care about the capital gains, evident by their love of freight trains and the recent tax terrorism. These accidents damage multiple rakes, what about all the money going down the drain. No one seems to answer. RM won't take responsibility, the government as a whole will deny it's responsibility to it's citizens.

This will keep happening because we, as the citizens, have no conscience left. On a forum related to railways, people keep defending their masters with whatever means they find. Instead of asking the right questions, they keep calling it as conspiracy. Some great people even start asking what happened in the last 67 years. Until people will speak the language of politicians and be their puppets, this will continue.

And everyone will be happy with the third worldly services and no security of life, because 'Bharat me sab chalta hai'. The golden period of Indian Railways.

I see that unfortunately some members are advocating privatization as a viable solution to the problems . Had it been so, issues like bad quality food and overcharging in contractor-managed pantry cars would not have ever existed .

I'll quote an elaborate example below regarding airport privatization from December 2023 article of the Hindu.

...
Kerala has one Airport Authority of India (AAI)-run airport, Calicut International Airport, and three airports under public-private partnerships (PPP), including the recently privatised Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Cochin International Airport, and Kannur International Airport.

Thiruvananthapuram airport, which made a record profit of ₹189 crore during the pre-pandemic period, continues to register losses despite the airport being taken over by the private concessionaire Adani Group in 2021. The airport, which garnered a revenue of ₹350 crore since its takeover on October 14, 2021, incurred a cumulative loss of ₹162.47 crore so far after the privatisation — ₹110.15 crore in 2022-23 fiscal alone.

Calicut airport, which handles a less number of passengers compared to the Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin airports, netted a profit of ₹95.38 crore in 2022–23. Further, among the 125 AAI-run airports in the country, Calicut airport stands third in position after Kolkata (₹482.30 crore) and Chennai (₹169.56 crore).

Also , all six privatised airports in the country — Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati — registered losses in the last fiscal.

Had privatization been a solution, all recently privatised airports would have registered profits.

Similarly, in IR , Instead of a binary profit/Loss based approach, A balanced approach - Adequate redressal of Basic issues like maintenance, staff vacancies, safety, overcrowding ; while steady implementation of new schemes ; is required.

Regular train accidents - be it freight or passenger trains, 160+ kmph capable train sets running at a cumulative average speed of 76.25 kmph (The Indian Express Article, June 2024) , are a testimony that despite small achievements in recent years , A LOT remains to be done.

Government needs to address the issues and ensure on-ground implementation rather than just selling lucrative dreams to citizens on social media.

Following pure Socialism brought us to the economic disaster in 1991. Some things are better left to the private sector because profit is what motivates people to innovate and bring in new technologies to the market.
Regarding Communism it's even more bad for the society those ideologies have only brought violence and destruction wherever followed.

What you should be ideally aspiring

for is a welfare state one which allows private enterprises to thrive and uplift people with strict govt. regulations and not interference, people becoming rich, govt. collecting taxes are providing welfare like free education (not higher education), healthcare (like in Canada) and other things to uplift the poor like toilet, water and electricity connections, housing, etc. Also govt. should disinvest in its PSUs and sell the loss making ones instead of wasting resources on them.

Now coming to the question of IR some aspects like catering, cleaning, etc. can be privatized also these days coz of e-catering passengers don't have to exclusively rely on pantry food. But at the same time IR should set proper standards for these private players and ensure that they are strictly followed.
But other workforce who are actually involved in operating the trains should be under the employment of IR and they should be paid well and not overburdened necessary vacancies should be filled, proper and timely training should also be given.

Even though I support disinvestment in govt. PSUs and non critical aspects of IR which are already privatised I won't support full scale privatization of Indian Railways as it's considered a backbone of the country simply no Railways means a backward India. There will be various issues of privatising a huge organisation like IR will it be a single monopoly or will different zones be given to different companies?
If it's to be given to a single company is there any company rich enough to buy the entire rail network ??

So instead let govt. privatise some PSUs so it has more resources to spend on Indian Railways. Some things in India are better left to the govt. Also remember when I said we should have a welfare state and providing subsidised rail travel is also a welfare. Welfarism and Capitalism combo is what India needs now not exclusive Capitalism or Socialism.

While privatization may not be a solution to the problems in IR but it is to a lot other sectors like insurance, banking, telecommunication, manufacturing, etc.
Also you give eg. of bad pantry food but coz of e-catering you have the choice of ordering food from other vendors that is coz of private sector too.
Once again I would like to clarify even though I support privatising some non critical aspects like food and onboard cleaning of trains and cleaning of station premises but I don't support employing private workforce in the
