A guide for inter-terminal travel in Kolkata.
KOAA-SHM / SHM-KOAA:
For this journey , you have to first reach Howrah and then move to Shalimar. If you book a direct taxi for KOAA to SHM , it would be hasslefree but very very costly. One more thing can be done is opting Kolkata circular railway for Howrah (i.e alight at Barrabazaar and walk the Howrah bridge to reach Howrah jn.) Or else take a taxi for Shalimar to Howrah. Or else reach R G Kar Hospital Bus stop which is hardly 5-10...

Another way[but quite long] is to take the direct bus to Sealdah from Howrah. Then take an EMU to Bidhan Nagar Road, buses[like 007] are available from there to Chitpur terminal[Pros:Cheaper[21 Rs. for the whole journey], connectivity via this route available throughout the day. Cons:Lots of interchanges involved, can't be done if lots of baggage is there].
Also autos available from bidhan nagar road for rs. 10 per head. Travel time 15 minutes traffic free
You missed out the easiest way. Take a bus to R G Kar medical college from howrah and then walk/take a shared auto to KOLKATA TERMINAL
I deliberately left the Bus option , considering that Kolkata Buses are very notorious when it comes to carrying passengers with luggage. They don't like people with Trolley/Suitcases as these cover up the useful area of bus.
But yes , if luggage is pretty less ,like single carry bag or back pack , then R G kar medical college bus service from HWH is the easiest option to reach KOAA.

Princepghat is one station away from the babutghat. Right after alighting from ferry one can board circular railway at Edens railway station/ at walking distance there is BBD Station.
Going to Princepghat by Ferry is kind of sightseeing trip. Only suitable for those travellers who have Lots of Lots excess time to kill. ;)
My personal preference to reach KOAA any day would be ferry to bagh bazar and then local emu to kOAA. If nt available, shared auto to shyambazar bata. From there you can even walk if luggage free. Or else, auto again from R G kar. Obviously not for passengers with luggage as it involves many transitions
Busses take khanna shyambazar route. auTos bypass that and take tunnel route by the side of canal. So saves minimum 20 minutes
Bagh Bazar ? Is this the same Barra Bazaar which is just near the eastern bank of Hoogly river , just below the Howrah Bridge ?
There is a restaurant on the ground floor just beside the stairs which take you upstairs to the computerized reservation center. You find this restaurant on the left-hand side before entering the first platform.
Hey friends if you are going to Calcutta (kolkata) for any reason please do not take trains to kolkata chitpur station (KOAA) because the taxis in the station stand demand a lot of money and it is very far from central kolkata. It is better to take trains to Sealdah (SDAH) or Howrah (HWH) . it will be a lot better option .
Texi avbl at day time easily , but not easy at night ..
