The irctc canteen is situated on 2nd floor of mainline building which provides veg thaali at rs 35 only. Seating arrangement are there. Consists of 6 puri/2 paratha, rice, daal, 2 sabzi, pickle, curd. Taste is OK for the price and quantity is such that one person can eat his food satisfactorily. Hygiene is also good. The server has his head and hands covered. This is self service type arrangement. Take the coupon and go to the window and take you thali to the tables.
Apart from IRCTC canteen, there is Neelam on ground floor which serves thali in range of 150-250. Ofcourse taste is different from irctc but if you want to hav economical food then IRCTC is better. In IRCTC Janta Khana is also available consisting of 7 puri/sabzi/pickle.
"NEELAM" situated on ground floor on mainline side is awesome man. Though 5 times costlier than IRCTC canteen ( it doesn't keep non veg items and egg items are also rare ) on 2nd floor but value for money. I just had a non - veg thaali consisting of:-
Chicken masala ( 2 big and 1 small chunk of chicken)
5 butter roti ( good enough in size)

Bhai jo taste aur quantity thha aur bahar restaurants mein jo mil raha usse compare kare to value for money hai. Bahar sirf utna chicken masala ka 200 le lete. Aur economical option hai na 2nd floor IRCTC canteen. 35 rs veg thaali with sufficient quantity but compromise on taste, though not bad, their taste is also OK but not good.
Bhai ice cream phekte huye bada dukh hua. Pet ekdum bhar chuka thha. Ice cream ke jagah gulab jamun alag se rehta to main dormitory mein laake baad mein khaa leta. Lekin ice cream kaise laata?? Khair taste kiya thha ice cream bhi, acchi thhi.
Is tip me add kar do ki agar neelam me paisa vasool khana hai to ek time pehle bhookhe rahiye ya fir do ghante pehle hajmola ya soup /appetizers le leejiye.
Mai usme half bhi kha nahi sakta, anyways I'm pure vegetarian, so I have to search for another option.
Sach mein agar maine dopahar ka khaana khaa liya hota to shayad thaali ka khaana bach jaata. Subah 1 chai, dopahar mein thoda time mila to 2 samosa, phir kaam niptate - niptate 4 baj gaye to juhu se lautte time ek wada - pav khaya aur uske baad raat 8 baje ye. Agar aap railway ke khane se pet bhar sakte hain to ye thhali easily 2 logon ke saath share kar sakte hain, basharte aapko ek extra gulab jamun aur icecream lena hoga.
Any options for vegetarian people like me😅. Id like to try some vegetarian meal , next time I'm to Mumbai.
Veg option was also there. This thaali - chicken. Wo veg thaali banaate hai aur phir andar se alag package mein chicken dete hain. Veg was of 2 types - 160 and 200 one. In 160, they dont give complimentary icecream.
Wo shayad allow nahi karte hain ki ek thali 2 log waha baith ke share karein . Ya fir pack karwa ke room la sakte hain tab ho sakta hai
So it's better paying 200 here for a veg thali , rather than paying 250+ for a veg meal at MC Donald's.
When you go to the counter you will see different types of thaalis kept there. Choose one and ask for the token. Hand over the token to the server and he will prepare another chosen thaali by you. Tomorrow i will post all thaali's menu of Neelam.
There's no sitting arrangement. Apna thaali uthaaiye aur table par rakh kar khade khade shuru ho jaiye. Share kar sakte hai, serve karne ke baad use koi matlab nahi. Wo sirf poochta hai ki parcel karna hai ya yahi khana hai ?
