Electrification of the 15-km crucial stretch between Mangaluru Junction and Jokatte was completed this month. Electrification of the remaining section between Jokatte and Panambur Yard and sidings within New Mangalore Port is in an advanced stage and it will be completed before March. This will help improve operation of trains as changing of engines, from diesel to electric and vice-versa could be avoided, he said.
Mr. Kothari said that the division utilised the COVID-19 lockdown to strengthen the railway infrastructure and emerged as the first division in Southern Railway to have 100 % interlocked level crossings. By completing tamping operations on tracks, there was no tamping overdue of plain tracks resulting in excellent ride quality. Through rail renewals were done on 82-km of track, while deep screening of Ballast by Ballast Cleaning Machine was completed on 82 km of tracks, including deep screening of 28 points and crossings.
R. Raghuraman, Additional DRM-I, C.T. Sakkeer Hussain, ADRM-II and others were present. Jethin B. Raj, Divisional Security Commissioner of Railway Protection Force, organised the parade which was commanded by RPF Inspector from Kannur Binoy Antony.
Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. celebrated the 72nd Republic Day at its headquarters at Konkan Rail Vihar-Nerul, Navi Mumbai. KRCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Gupta unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day address.
Similar functions were organised in Ratnagiri and Karwar regions of KRCL, said a communiqué.

electric loco-hauled trains, the stretch up to at least Kumta would be ready to take electric loco-hauled trains.
KRCL has completed electrification of the line between Thokur and Bijur (105 km), while work on the line between Bijur and Kumta (75 km) is in the final stages of completion. Kumta station has three lines with loco reversal facility.
As such, loco change from electric to diesel for onward journey towards Mumbai is possible at that station, according to KRCL officials.
CRS (Southern Circle), K.A. Manoharan is scheduled to conduct the inspection of the track between Mangaluru and Jokatte between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. A speed trial run would be conducted on the section during the inspection and Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division has cautioned the general public not to approach the railway line during the period.
Southern Railway has spent ₹ 20 crore for the electrification of the 13.147 route km or 25.429 track km line between Mangaluru Junction and Jokatte being taken up by its construction wing. While work on the 110 kV substation at Jokatte has been completed, Southern Railway is awaiting energising of the line by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.
Mangaluru Junction-Jokatte electrification was part of the Shoranur-Mangaluru (328 km) electrification project. With the completion of work, the line right from Thiruvananthapuram till KRCL border at Thokur gets electrified. Electric loco-hauled goods and passenger trains are already running between Mangaluru Junction/ Mangaluru Central towards the South, including Chennai, with the first electric loco-hauled train running from Mangaluru Central on April 1, 2017 (Train No 12686, Mangaluru Central-Chennai Central Superfast Express).

MANGALURU: KA Manoharan, commissioner of railway safety, Southern Circle on Tuesday inspected the new double line between Kulashekar and Jokatte. Accompanied by Palakkad divisional railway manager Pratap Singh Shami and officials of construction department of the Southern Railway, Manoharan studied the double line. A high speed trial was also conducted in the section at 120kmph to check the stability of the track later in the evening. The track doubling is part of Mangaluru Junction-Panambur doubling project where 11.5-odd km stretch between Padil and Jokatte, the last station of Southern Railway towards Konkan Railway jurisdiction, is getting completed. Manoharan inspected the distance of 8.16-kms of the newly laid double line between Kulashekar and Jokatte. Pratap Singh Shami said that the CRS inspection went on smoothly and to the satisfaction of Manoharan.Construction department of Southern Railway is in-charge of the doubling. observations regarding to track safety made by the CRS is rectified. “We are optimistic that we will be able to operate the double line by end of March,” Pratap Singh said, adding it will reduce the travel time by 15 minutes since the division at present is facing difficulty with the single line on the stretch. However, with the tunnelling work at Kulashekar likely to take some more time and expected to be completed by end of December, the connectivity from Southern Railway to Konkan Railway will be seamless once the work is completed. The division authorities had on Monday warned people and construction workers not to approach the track or work in its vicinity on Tuesday afternoon when the high speed trial was being carried out for their own safety.
