Agartala: Newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pratima Bhowmik met Union railway and Industry and commerce minister Piyush Goyal at New Delhi on Wednesday and requested him for establishment of Railway Recruitment Board and an office of the Inspector General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) here.
A memorandum, which was submitted by Bhowmik to Goyal on Wednesday said, “… I would submit that our government has been working together with the Ministry in facilitating availability of the land, crucial for expansion of railway network not only within the state but also with the neighbouring Bangladesh, which, once completed shall open up new vistas in the economy.”
memorandum pointed out that the people of Tripura suffered badly during the “misrule” of the previous government and as a result unemployment problem took serious turn in state.
“The is no doubt that state government has been doing its best to tide over the crisis but the situation is so alarming that the state alone cannot address this mammoth burden. Since people have seen rapid progress in the railway networking only after 2014, so the expectation of the people from the largest employer of the nation, the railways, has also grown high.”
“Therefore, it is natural that the Railways also has a big role to play in providing employment to the people of the North Eastern region. I would request you to kindly consider establishment of a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) office at Agartala which would cater to the needs of the people of not only Tripura but also that of the Barak valley of Assam, part of Manipur and Mizoram as well,” the memorandum said.
Bhowmik also wrote to Railway minister Goyal for establishment of office of the Inspector General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) here and said that the decision to connect Bangladesh with Tripura through railway network in which event Agartala shall become the junction station of the two separate railway lines coming from Dhaka & Chittagong respectively.
Besides we are also given to understand that Jawaharnagar railway station under Dhalai district is being connected to Mizoram for further advancement of the rail network to join the South Asian Railways under the present Act East Policy of the Government.
Bhowmik also requested the union minister to set up an office of the Railway Protection Force in the state.
“……establishment of the office of Inspector General-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala is essential in the face of new challenges. And so we also take the responsibility of locating the land, in case the railway land is not readily available for this purpose,” Bhowmik wrote to Railway minister Piyush Goyal.
