Come Sunday and India’s first Monorail will be thrown open to the public. The Monorail service will be inaugurated on February 1 by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan here and the commercial operations will begin from the next day.
This is the first phase of operation in which the train will run between the central suburb of Wadala and the eastern suburb of Chembur. A distance of 8.93 km will be covered in 15 minutes. The stretch usually takes about 40 minutes...

मुंबई: मेट्रोची वाट पाहता पाहता आता मोनोरेलला मुहूर्त सापडला आहे. 26 जानेवारीपासून चेंबूर ते वडाळादरम्यान मोनोरेल्वे धावेल, अशी माहिती एमएमआरडीएकडून मिळाली आहे. सेफ्टी सिक्युरिटी ऍथॉरिटी 13 जानेवारी रोजी मोनो प्रकल्पाला भेट देऊन मोनोरेलच्या मार्गाची अंतिम सुरक्षा चाचणी घेणार आहेत.चेंबूर ते वडाळा या पहिल्या टप्प्यातील मार्गाचं काम आणि सर्व चाचण्या पूर्ण झालेल्या असूनही फक्त सुरक्षा प्रमाणपत्रासाठी मोनो यार्डातच रखडली होती. मात्र निवडणूक जवळ आल्याने आता सरकार मेट्रो नाही तर किमान मोनोने तरी मुंबईकरांना समाधनी करण्याच्या प्रयत्नात आहे.त्यामुळे दीड वर्ष आधी मुंबईकरांच्या सेवेत उतरणाऱ्या मोनोरेलसाठी 26 जानेवारीचा मुहूर्त साधण्याचा एमएमआरडीएचा प्रयत्न सुरु आहे.
