Seems the word is officially out:
CANCELLATION OF DEMU TRAIN SERVICES
The Diesel Electric Multiple Unit(DEMU) services, between Ernakulam Jn and Cochin Harbour Terminus (Train Nos.06303/06306 & 06035/06036) stand cancelled from 08.10.2018 due to poor patronage. The revenue per day by way of sale of tickets is less than Rs 500/- whereas the operational cost per day for running the services comes up to Rs 30,000/- excluding maintenance and fuel charges. Due to ongoing track maintenance works in the division, it is not feasible to extend the DEMU services beyond Ernakulam Jn.
