It was inaugurated on August 15, 1865, and features 14.63 lakh rupees worth of solid iron girders across its 3150 feet length. Initially a single-lane bridge, it was doubled in 1913 and again in 1929. Currently, it is being upgraded to handle trains travelling at speeds of 160 km/h.

Nirman ke samay is par sirf ek lane hi thi, 1913 mein iska dohrisation kiya gaya. Iski re-gardering 1929 mein ki gayi. Ab is pul ko 160 km ki trains ko daudaane ke liye taiyaar kiya ja raha hai.
