It was not a failure exactly. The experiment was shelved as there was a call for converting all trains to LHB. It was one of several experiments tried out when IR failed to come up with a good self-generating system for LHB coaches. Several experiments were tried out to incorporate the safety features from LHB coaches in to normal coaches like CBC couplings and H-LHB coaches. And like a lot of other experiments, this was abandoned in between to focus on another half-cooked project.
CBC couplings will always give heavy jerks compared to screw coupling, no matter the type of coach. But it is not a unsolvable problem. LHB's give lesser jerks as the coupling has been suitably...
more... modified. And similarly H-LHB coaches ( which use ICF bogies) were also modified to reduce CBC jerks. All the MG rolling stock from ICF also have CBC couplings ( it's just a different kind of CBC coupling). It is just a matter of pursuing it till the end.
