Today Road sector is carrying that freight also which should ideally be carried by Railways and drastically increasing the logistics costs of our country, much to the detriment of national economy.
But still the investment being done in the rail network expansion is much lesser than the investment in the road sector expansion, which is much more fuel inefficient and environmentally damaging.
So the IR with chocked/ saturated network shall continue to lose its market share and get more and more sidelined and shall be devoid of its due place in...

Unless the planning of capacity augmentation is done in a way to complement each other rather than the current method of independent planning where the two compete with each other. The inherently inefficient road sector armed with efficient operation and the inherently efficient IR being lamed by inefficient operation.
