HYB METRO UPDATE

Overhead uninterrupted power line for metro
---
The metro rail project will have an overhead 25 KV power line across the 72-km viaduct being constructed in the three corridors. Initially, the

authorities thought of having the power line between the tracks as is prevalent in Europe which also provides an aesthetic look.
But after consulting experts and studying the power systems of some existing metro lines, it was decided to go in for an overhead line, said Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy. “We will be striving to come up with a better design to compensate for the overhead traction line,” he said.
Tie-up with Transco
HMR has tied up with APTransco for uninterrupted power supply to the railway traction and also for the stations and depots. About 75 MW of power will be required a day for the project. Transco will be supplying 130 KV power, which will be scaled to 25 KV for the traction. It will 35 KV for the other auxiliary services at the depots/stations.
Four key substations are coming up for the project at Uppal, Miyapur, Yousufguda and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) Imliban. Construction at the five-acre Uppal site inside the depot is in an advanced stage of completion, while work on the Miyapur substation is set to begin on another five-acre site. These two are the main power receiving stations.
Free land to Transco
It is the same case with the Yousufguda substation where construction is expected to begin soon. Land at MGBS is yet to be delineated and these substations will be on one-acre sites each. Land has been given free to Transco for constructing these facilities with built in redundancies and extra cabling.
“The power supply system is being designed in such a manner that power can be drawn seamlessly from across any of the three corridors in case of a problem or failure on a particular stretch or corridor,” explained Mr. Reddy.

HYDERABAD, JUNE 3: Hyundai-Rotem is likely to supply a prototype of rail coach for L&T Hyderabad metro rail project by August.
.
The coach

maker was awarded the contract for the metro project.
.
According to N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad metro rail project, the coach will be placed for public display once it comes to Hyderabad.
.
The metro official, who conducted a group of journalists through to some of the project sites on Sunday to explain the work progress and difficulties in its implementation, including a metro station under construction, said efforts are on to ensure that the project work continues at the busy pace and is completed ahead of its schedule in June 2017.
.
He said that the work on main workshop, communication centres and power supplies are also underway.
.
L&T, the concessionaire for the 72-km elevated metro rail project in Hyderabad, has awarded all major and minor contracts. It has opened several fronts for construction.
.
First lot of rail lines from Tata Corus plant in France have also arrived in the city.
.
Meanwhile, the metro authorities are in the process of negotiations for acquisition of some of the properties along the metro line. They are in the process of providing the right of way for the entire stretch.

Stage I, II Metro works to be completed by next December.
.
Executing a 72-km-long and three-corridor metro rail project on the congested roads of the twin cities is a gigantic engineering and managerial task but the staff of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd (L& THMRL) are toiling hard to complete the Stage-I work from Nagole to Mettuguda and Stage-2 from Miyapur to SR Nagar by December next year, HMR managing director NVS Reddy has said.
.
...

After the completion of Stage-1 (8 km) and Stage-2 (11 km) works, the commissioner of railway safety will carry out trial runs for about four to six months to check the safety of the tracks, coaches and other issues concerning the safety of the metro rail. Only after getting green signal from them will the commercial operations begin, possibly in June 2015.
.
Work on all the three corridors _ Miyapur to LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma and Nagole to Hitec City _ will be completed by June 2017.
.
Reddy, along with HMRL and L&THMRL officials, took mediapersons to the work sites to show them the works being executed between Begumpet and Uppal. He said that the work was progressing at a brisk pace in coordination with the GHMC, water board, traffic police, APTransco, APCPDCL and other utilities, and that HMR was successfully tackling the challenges that were cropping up from time to time.
.
“The hard rock near the Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet, flyovers, high volumes of traffic and huge water pipelines, sewer lines, electrical and telecom cables etc are posing challenges in the core area. HMR and L&T are devising site-specific engineering solutions to tackle these problems and see that the work is completed as per schedule,’’ Reddy said.
.
L&T and HMRL engineers have been toiling hard for the last couple of years, (first year of alignment refinement, road widening, utilities identification and designs and drawings, and later on the ground work) to bring the project to its current state, NVS Reddy added.
.
Giving the latest status of the project, NVS Reddy said work on 26 km length of the total 72 km has been taken up till now.
.
Of the 2,500 pillars, 755 foundations (20 km) and 625 pillars (16 km), and 150 spans of viaduct (5 km) were completed in one year. Nearly, 3,300 segments for a length of 10 km have been cast at the Uppal and Qutbullapur pre-cast yards.
.
Utmost precautions and international construction practices are being observed to ensure safety of the general public.
.
A 6,200-strong workforce is working on viaduct construction, depots and stations and 700 engineers are supervising the work. Each day, about 30 segments, each of 3 metres wide and weighing about 40 tons, are being fabricated.
.
The Uppal yard, being developed in a 100-acre land, will have state-of-the-art operation control centre (OCC) from where the movement of all trains will be monitored.
.
A workshop, which can accommodate eight trains, is also being constructed for maintenance and cleaning of trains.
