I have boarded this train at Faizabad Jn (FD) on 4th March 2014 at Platform Number 2. Railway officials confirmed that this train generally arrives and leaves from Platform No.2 every Tuesday.

I have traveled in this train from Faizabad Jn (FD) to Nasik Road (NK), D/J being 4th March, 2014 and coach/berth being H1/Cabin A/Berth-1. No Pantry Car has been there in this train contrary to your website which includes PC in the description of its Rake/Coach Composition. Co-passengers too have confirmed that no PC is provided in this train. Kindly make the necessary correction.

Authorization to board the train:
Passengers with Confirmed E ticket are permitted to board the train.Their names will appear on the chart.
Names of passengers with Partially Waitlisted/Confirmed/RAC will appear on the chart (including the Waitlisted passengers). They are allowed to board the train.
PNRs having fully waitlisted status will be dropped and names of the passengers will not appear on the chart. They are not allowed to board the train. If full waitlisted passengers are found travelling, they will be treated as without ticket and charged as per extant Railway rules.

My son has met a high authority of NK station just now and discussed this problem with him. But, at the end, things remained unresolved. Though the authority has been sympathetic towards my son but he could prescribe some vague prescriptions. He could not come out with the exact rule in this context.

This is what my son is going to do tomorrow forenoon when 12534 Pushpak Express will arrive at NK station. The saddest part of the story is that this train has a stoppage of merely two minutes at NK. The duty TTE may or may not be there at 1AC coach at NK. Keeping finger crossed till then.

Thanks to all of you for sharing my problem. The duty TTE at NK has been sympathetic enough and allowed my daughter-in-law to travel in 1AC with her WL-1 ticket along with my son. But, the TTE assured a berth for my daughter-in-law only if he finds any berth vacant enroute. Till then, they have to share their confirmed single berth in 1AC. I shall receive them at LJN tomorrow morning. Thanks again to all of you.

Thank you for following my blog and wishing happy journey to my son and daughter-in-law. Now the final position is as follows.
The duty TTE has very kindly allowed my son to utilise a vacant 2AC berth in the same HA-1 coach which he will formally allot in my daughter-in-law's name at Khandwa Jn. I have advised my son to request the TTE as to how to get the refund of difference of fare. I hope this blog will guide the members of IRI in similar situation, if however, arise to them in future.

The duty TTE was not very much conversant on the relevant rules. But, he has charged not even a single rupee for allotting a 2AC berth in the same HA-1 coach. He has entered my daughter-in-law's name in the chart as well as on the printed hard copy of e-ticket properly with his signature and mentioning the PNR Number against the allotted 2AC berth number. So far as refund of difference is concerned, he suggested not to proceed because for issuing of the certificate he will have to charge penalty for boarding the train with a WL ticket. Thus, at the end, matter would remain almost the same financially. No refund can be claimed as journey is actually being performed. My son accepted his suggestion very gracefully and thanked the TTE for his appreciable and wonderful co-operation.

I support your opinion even if it is your 'personal opinion'. The competent authorities in Indian Railway should reconsider on the rules for Partially Confirmed PNRs. I now realise that railway users pass through how much of scrapes in similar situation because of some vague and contradictory rules. On one side, in partly confirmed PNRs the Wailisted Passenger/s' ticket, money is not refunded automatically, whereas on the other side Railway does not take the responsibility of providing berth/s even if their name/s appear/s in the Reservation Chart as waitlisted. I think, this provision is there only to make a room practically for the waitlisted passenger/s left behind in partly confirmed PNRs (if at all, there is/are vacant berth/s after the departure of the train). Now,question arises as how can a waitlisted passenger of a partly confirmed PNR board a train or even enter a platform without a Platform ticket. Again, what...

if there is no vacant berth after the departure of the train. Ticket is not cancelled but the journey is denied.
Here the role of duty TTE is either of 'Devdoot' or of a 'Khalnayak' ! He too is helpless if no berth is vacant, no matter, how much generous and humane he is. He can not creat an extra berth in a fully reserved coach.

Quoting from a reply given in May 2012 in Rajya Sabha by the Minister of State of Railway:
"Railways, in order to improve the operating ration, are striving for augmenting traffic earnings and containing the expenditure. Steps being taken for maximizing the traffic earnings inter-alia include rationalization of fare and freight tariff; effective marketing strategies to capture more and more traffic; creation of additional capacity and optimum utilization of the existing rail infrastructure; improved throughput by steps to increase productivity and efficiency; improvement of passenger interface etc. Railways are making efforts to contain the expenditure through diverse means including strict economy and austerity measures; improved man-power planning; better asset utilization and inventory management; optimizing the fuel consumption etc."
