Which class were you in Mahananda Exp? Are unauthorised pax even an issue in higher classes like 2A?

Lol, I understand. I also had Side Lower recently in 3A and it was occupied like heck on BJU-GWL Mail. I made it empty at LKO and just as I went to take some breakfast at CNB, again my seat was taken. There were so many staff for JHS bound. I didn't even footplate this time because of fear of losing my seat. On contrary, [I had a split journey in 2A+3A since the two tickets were done separately], the singular 2A coach was unoccupied by extra folks and largely better than the mess 3A was.

If we were to exclude very short stretches and let's say, enact a minimum length of ~30 km as base, which would be the lowest mps stretch in India [amongst BG obviously]?

I have travelled through this route few times, but observed minutely only couple of times when travelling upto Bardhaman. First time, we took a crawling express upto BWN [via main line ] . On returning, we missed the direct non stop local to HWH, so had to take a normal local [again via main line, I think ]. I was impressed to see that a direct local ticket was available for KGP for only Rs 40; which is impressively cheap for 200+ km.

Wait, why does this train go in the reverse direction to Bangalore instead of coming straight to LKO?If connecting Bangalore was such a priority, why not just start from there. In either case, it's day timings b/w Hubbali and Bangalore means it's not an optimum train between those 2 stations.
If they had to keep this schedule, maybe start from Hubbali at late evening, reach Bangalore in the morning and then continue the journey.

My only tryst with rail staff was when I was going to Jhansi. They had occupied whole of AC 3 Tier despite train having nearly 10 SL coaches. Apart from singular AC 2 Tier, where they dared not enter because of presence of TT, they didn't leave any place untouched. And they wouldn't leave until you threaten them with complaint. One person even came and asked me at Kanpur if he can ride only till Jhansi. The train went terminated at Gwalior. If you are sharing a seat for 80% of the ride, it is not "ONLY".
