Sleepers and GS will one day surely not be a part of Railways. But the approach should have been reduction part by part. 9 to 7, then 6, 5, 4, 3 likewise till 0 but at a gap of 2-3 years for each reduction of SL and addition of AC.

I know but if we have to compete with foreign countries in terms of passenger services, it would be required that all trains go fully AC. Had this approach been from the beginning of the century, there would not have been much hue and cry over this. Slowly phasing out Sleeper and General would have been a better option and not directly reducing to 6 and now to 2.

Yes, visionary planning was required that time. More or less, now the decision has been taken which should have been taken long back and due to time stipulation, this all hue and cry we see.

Yes I agree but one day or the other it is bound to happen if railways wants to achieve high speeds and compete with air sector of the same country. Otherwise sooner or later air sector would make its way. I remember once Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Scindia stated that the day is not far when every citizen of the country would travel by air or somewhat like this statement he gave.

Yes, this should have been implemented long back, atleast 15-18 years ago. Gradually they should have removed one by one, after each 3-4 years

Firstly, I am totally against the standardization happening at such a speedy rate. Please do not consider me as one who would support these things. This should have had been started long back to comply with the current scenario and also at a slow rate. In that case my support would have been to this concept. For that, it should have been done that every 2-3 years, one SL/GS is replaced by one other AC coach. Then today all this hue and cry would be out.
