The latest 22110 disaster seems to indicate this train is beyond repair, at least in its current avatar. Instead of indulging in repeated NCR/WCR bashing, maybe we need to adopt the stance of innocent until proven guilty instead of vice versa :-) This will serve to cool down flared tempers as well. Here are some possible solutions:
1. Upgrade the train to a Rajdhani ASAP. Only then will it get top priority throughout. I don't see why that should be a problem since it has all the ingredients of a Rajdhani - all-AC train connecting Delhi to Mumbai with limited halts and MPS of 130 kmph.
2....
more... a) If the above is not possible for some inexplicable reason, then adjust its schedule to a 22-hr run with a 110 kmph MPS, so that it no longer masquerades as a Raj-level train. At least, the traveling public will not be conned into believing that they are in some high-speed Raj-type train. They can even introduce sleeper coaches so that it behaves as a dedicated superfast between Mumbai and Delhi via CR, the first of its kind. Moreover, the train can merrily trail all kinds of superfasts in its path and get overtaken by the Raj. - no eyebrows will be raised.
b) Introduce a CR Rajdhani but via WR that runs between CSTM and NZM with a running time of 17-17.5 hours. This will employ the Diva-Vasai link and halts could be Dadar, Thane, Surat, Vadodara and Kota. This way the trio of CSTM, DR and TNA would get a genuine Rajdhani to Delhi. Even KYN folks could avail of this train at TNA. To some extent, this will also serve as the 3rd WR Rajdhani, proposals for which have repeatedly surfaced.
Whatever happens, my long-standing dream of seeing a Raj-level run via CR remains just that, a dream :-(
