Mumbai: After months of delay, Central Railway will be able to undertake conversion of traction from 1500V direct current to 25KV alternating current on November 10 Next Sunday ..between LTT-Thane and Thane-Kalyan.
The commissioner of railway safety (Central Circle) has given a clearance to undertake the switchover that will enable savings in energy and less maintenance-related failure.
Central Railway’s chief public relations officer Atul Rane said, “We will switch to AC traction on November 9 or 10. Details about train cancellations and block timings during the work are being finalized.”

Though CR had carried out test charging of LTT-Thane and Thane-Kalyan stretch on AC traction in December last year, the permanent switchover had been held up. The commissioner of railway safety (CRS) had raised an objection claiming there was inadequate gap between the overhead equipment (OHE) wire and the base of foot overbridges, road overbridges and Parsik tunnel. The CRS had feared that any compromise would have affected the safety of transportation system.
