While the NH-31 has remained in disastrous condition,the 75718 Bamanhat-Siliguri Jn DEMU & 75720 Coochbehar Malda Town DEMU was the only source of hope for the people of North Bengal.The starting was quite good.The Bamanhat Siliguri DEMU started first followed by the Coochbehar Malda Town DEMU.Not only Dooars,but it was a matter of joy for the remote villages bordered by Bangladesh.After finishing essential work,they could’ve returned the same day from Siliguri.The travelling expenses were also minimum.Naturally these two trains gathered so much popularity in so less time.But as the time is progressing,people have only became hopeless about these trains.Often the train leaving Bamanhat early in the morning,reaches back on the next calendar day.

is scheduled to start from Coochbehar often begins its journey from New Coochbehar.As a result,passengers who comes to board the train from Coochbehar falls in crisis.After coming to know about short termination,when they reach New Coochbehar,the train would have already started.When the passengers ask the Coochbehar Station Authorities about the matter,they cant cite them the proper reason.Not only that,passengers complain that to reach Malda,which is around 364 km from Coochbehar,they need to spend their entire day in the train itself.As a DEMU,the train doesn’t have facilities for Toilet.The train almost never sticks to its Time Schedule.According to Railway Sources,the Bamanhat DEMU was started by bringing an extra DEMU rake from Alipurduar Junction.Initially N.F.Railway Authorities claimed to have fixed the target of sale of Daily Tickets worth Rs 30,000/-But the No. of passengers have increased with time.As a result,coaches have also being augmented.They accepted that due to stoppage at all the stations,the train is getting severely delayed.Also to give preference to other Superfast Mail/Exp as well as Goods Trains,its unnecessarily halted for longer duration.
But Daily Passengers are saying that due to the absence of Double Line b/w New Jalpaiguri & New Coochbehar,these trains are unable to reach Dinhata/Bamanhat on time.Railway Authorities needs to rectify the problem keeping passenger convenience in their mind.

Looking at the infrastructure of North Bengal which is really in a grim situation... Road condition are pathetic...
Even NBSTC ( North Bengal State Transport Corporation ) are not running buses to meet the passenger demand... Few months back NBSTC purchased new buses but they didn't run in North Bengal routes... Centre

I was totally amazed with a situation my friend who was about to travel from Kolkata to Siliguri but didn't got a reserve ticket went to Dharmatala Bus Depot [Kolkata] for a bus to Siliguri. We were shocked to see only few buses for Siliguri... CSTC was not running any buses... Though it used to have good number of night buses. NBSTC/SBSTC running few buses to Siliguri and the condition of the buses in bad shape... Though it was running brand new buses in other routes from the same depot...
You know getting a ticket in Night train in Kolkata - Siliguri or North Bengal bound train is how much difficult... Other wise you have to travel in over crowded general compartment or approach the TTE with your own tactics :)... Really a tough job...

It reminds me with situations when couple of years back when their was no Padatik Express/Uttar Banga Express/Kanchan Kanya Express/
Haldibari Super-fast/Saraighat Express/Garib Rath/Shatabdi Express... Darjeeling Mail was the lone contender with Teesta Torsha Express, Kanchanjungha Express and Kamrup Express giving the back up... In those days you probably could not trust Darjeeling Mail... You doesn't know when it was going to reach Sealdah after Khana Jn... Single line from Khana Jn to NJP... What we did in those days...
We used the Rocket Buses... That was more convenient and reach destination on time...

I think we have seen some Railway Connectivity development in North Bengal in last 2-3 years. Other wise we know how the situation was... Though with the introduction of this passenger train was a much relief to North Bengal people but now again problem are coming as usual...
Siliguri - Jalpaiguri
Siliguri - Coochbehar
Siliguri - Alipurduar via Malbazar
Siliguri - Malda
Siliguri - Balurghat
has good number of local passenger demand. If local trains run in regular interval and on time it will be great help to the people of North Bengal.

sILIGURI Balurghat DEMU is running but not amongst the popularity list because the train leaves @ 04:45 from Balurghat & often terribly delayed,it uses a detour via Eklakhi.Once the land issue becomes settled & laying of BG Track between Gazole(17 km before Eklakhi towards Balurghat) & Kaliyaganj becomes complete,distance between S.DInajour with other parts of N.BEngal will considerably reduce by atleast 45-50 km,also no Loco REversal required for trains like Balurghat Intercity..But tat is a distant dream as of now.
