Once upon a time, Villupuram Junction used to be a major hub for traction change from Electric to Diesel and vice - versa, and there used to be plenty of locos operated in both the directions. Same used to happen couple of years back for the train, in which I am onboard as well. Since the electrification has completed, finding diesel locomotives has become a rarity in this place, except for one or two ALCos, that would mostly be deployed for shunting. Seeing a high horsepower Electromotive Diesels that haul passenger train has become a rare scenario. But luckily, i got to spot one such beauty belonging to Ponmalai here today. Probably the special train to Ramnad to Tambaram is undergoing traction change here i guess.

But now, after electrification, spotting a diesel engine is like finding a needle in a haystack. Only a couple of ALCos left for shunting. Rare to see a powerful Electromotive Diesel pulling a passenger train nowadays. Luckily, saw one from Ponmalai today. Must be that special train from Ramnad to Tambaram going through a change here. The national flag in the background adds to the beauty of this sunny morning.
