Daily ridership across India's metro systems has exceeded 10 million and is expected to reach 12.5 million within a couple of years. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee initiated the metro system in 2002, and it has been credited with transforming urban transportation. Currently, China has the largest metro network with over 4,201 kilometers, followed by the USA with about 1,408 kilometers.
