iron ore. It consists of 682 coaches pulled by 8 General Electric AC 6000 CW diesel locomotives. The train covered a 275 km journey from Yandi Mine to Port Hedland in 10 hours and 4 minutes, carrying 82,000 tons of iron ore. The train is still in operation, but with fewer coaches and carrying 38,000 tons of iron ore. Previously, the record for the longest train was held by South Africa in 1991. That train, carrying 71,600 tons of iron, was 7,200 meters long with 660 wagons, pulled by 9 electric and 7 diesel locomotives.India achieved the feat of operating its longest and heaviest train in 2022. Called 'Super Vasuki', the 3.5 km long train was hauled by 5 engines and carried 27,000 tons of coal in 295 coaches. The train covered 267 km from Korba in Chhattisgarh to Nagpur in 11 hours and 20 minutes.
