You are kind of wrong. A nation is built by a feeling of loyalty towards your nation rather than a dynasty or some king.
British Raj was also based on loyalty towards the British monarch and British kingdom none of which had anything to do with the identity of India.
So if you consider Mauryans, Guptas and Cholans as dynasties so British was also like that.
