SOME IMPORTANT SIGNS AND SYMBOLS AND THEIR MEANINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS:-
1. SPEED LIMIT
Speed limit is indicated by yellow triangular board with black text in it.In the image below you can see yellow triangular board with black text written 40 means the driver has to control the speed by 40 KMPH in the zone or route where it is placed.
This yellow triangular board with black text is only used for Mail,Express,Goods train.

For Rajdhani and Shatabdi their is blue colour triangular board with white colour text.You can see the picture with 90 KMPH which indicates that the driver has to maintain the maximum speed of train by 90 KMPH only.

2. CAUTION ORDER FOR TUNNEL
C/T written in black on round yellow board.This symbols is placed just before the tunnel to indicate the driver that tunnel is ahead so they can maintain the speed of train.Mostly you can see this symbol used by konkan railways I don’t think any other division is using this because most of the tunnels are seen in konkan railways and near thul ghat.

3. TERMINATION INDICATOR
T (painted on a yellow circular board) : Termination of speed limit.In this the driver is given certain speed from the loco lobby which driver as to follow it in this route

4. SPEED TERMINATION INDICATOR BOARD
These boards have T/P,T/G,T/PG,T/P24.All this are indicated on Round circular board
a. T/P:- It indicates that termination of speed for passenger train no other train will follow this board.
b. T/G:- It stands for termination of speed for Goods train.Only goods train is used to follow this board.
c. T/PG:- It is indication for both passenger and Goods train so this board can be followed by both the trains.
d. T/24:- This symbols are for the passenger train which have 24 coaches.It means the train is of 24 Coach only

5. WHISTLE INDICATOR BOARD
Often while traveling in train we have seen yellow square boards.This boards have W,W/L,W/B,C/F
Now we will see one by one that what it indicates
a. W:- It indicates that the driver has to blow the horn of the train.
b. W/L or सी/फा :- It shows that the whistle for level crossing ( phatak ) because there is unmanned crossing ahead.The letter is also seen in Hindi with the characters ‘see/pha’ i.e. Siti Bajao – Phatak’).Normally W / L or C / F board is placed before the 250 meters of unmanned gate.
c. W/B:- Similarly the W/B board informs the driver of the train that the bridge is ahead so he need to blow the horn while Crossing the bridge.

6. SHUNTING LIMIT
A rectangular yellow board with a black cross at the top and the words ‘Shunting Limit’ (or ‘S/L’) indicates the end of a shunting section. This sign normally also has black and white bands on it, and white lamps attached on both sides (although the words are only on the side towards the station). This is usually provided at class ‘B’ stations on single-line sections (sometimes double-line) where shunting is permitted on the block section and advanced starters are not provided.
The sign is placed 400m to the rear of the first stop signal of the station in lower-quadrant signalling. A single white lamp may appear through a hole in the sign above the centre.
