11 coaches of 13009 Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express derailed at 1.15 p.m. between Mihrawan- Khetasarai stations on Lucknow Division of Northern Railway today. As per the reports received 4 passengers have died and 45 passengers received injuries(2 Greivious , 19 simple & 24 Trivial). The persons died in the incident are yet to be identified.The injured wereadmitted in the District Hospital Jaunpur, Sushila Devi Memorial Hospital Shahganj and Govt. Hospital Shahganj. Member Engineering, Railway Board, Sh. A.P. Mishra, Member Mechanical Railway Board ,Sh. Keshav Chandra and Member Traffic, Railway Board Sh. K.K. Srivastava have rushed to the site. Additional General Manager, Northern Railway, Sh. B.P.Gupta alongwith the team ofsenior officers from Northern Railway, Headquarters have also rushed for the site. Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow Sh. Jagdip Rai alongwith the Senior Divisional Officers, ART and Railway Doctors have already rushedfor the site. The team of Railway Officers and staff immediately reached the site to undertake rescueoperationand started the restoration work. Accident Relief Train from Varanasi and Lucknow have reached the site of accident and the restoration work is in full swing. The rail track is expected to be cleared by the evening tomorrow.
Railway Minister Sh. Mukul Roy has termed the incident as most unfortunate and tragic . He has expressed deep condolence over the death in the incident. He has announced enhanced amount of ex-gratia payment to the victims of the ill fated train i.e. Rs. 5.00 lacs in the case of death. Rs. 1 lac in the case of grievous injuries and Rs. 25 Thousand in the case of simple injuries. Minister for Railway is also rushing to the site of derailment from Kolkata.
Northern Railway has arranged a special train to clear the passengers of the ill-fated train to their destination. Adequate arrangements were made to serve water, tea, snacks etc, to the passengers
