*Public Fridge at Hubballi Railway station*
South Western Railway has come up with a novel idea of social responsibility for avoiding wastage of food helping the hungry and needy and by installing a fridge at entrance of Hubballi Railway Station. The fridge is 6 ft tall with 4 racks in which 2 racks are for cooked meal and the other 2 racks are for fruits and vegetables. The cost of the fridge is aprox Rs.80,000/- . Passengers who have extra food which is surplus to their requirement , can leave the eatables in this fridge. The needy and poor people can take benefit of having food from this fridge free of cost. A notice has also been putup on the fridge requesting passengers not to keep non vegetarian items and those items which are likely to become stale.
This novel idea of social responsibility has been welcomed by the public and many needy make us of it on a daily basis. Many passengers have started depositing additional food that is leftover for the needy and hungry at the station. The food plaza at Hubballi Station has also been requested to supply food to the Fridge as and when extra food is available to support novel cause. SWR is also making efforts to contact NGOs also in this regard.
This intiative been received well by public. It' s estimated that around 100 people have used this so far in last three days
