One of the busiest station on Howrah/Gaya/Patna to Varanasi/Lucknow/Allahabad/Delhi routes. Mostly people change here for Varanasi visit or if going to catch another train to Bihar. So, comparatively less crowded.
So, food served at various outlets might not be fresh or upto the desired expectations. Better carry your own.
Since, it's a busy station so a heaven for pickpocketers, beggars, unauthorized vendors etc. and hence these people cannot be avoided.
Porters...
more... can be easily spotted during "VIP movement" i.e. after 12:00 am to 2:30 am. This time almost every possible Rajdhani passes the station. During other times you have to search for it.
For any help ask any GRP/Railway person, they will help you better.
Atleast 10 minutes stoppage for each train. Therefore, try not to leave your compartments to buy chips/biscuits etc. if travelling alone as theft is very common.
Expect quite a few local passengers between 8am to 8pm till Buxar/Dildarnagar/Gaya/Dehri and Varanasi/Mirzapur/Kashi mostly job wale, railway employees etc.
"Cantt" is Varanasi Jn - fare is minimum 30 maximum 40, Same for "BHU".
Reserved autos is not at all a problem, but don't fix anyone till you negotiate with atleast 2-3 autos. There is a auto stand outside main station exit, near temple exclusively for Varanasi Jn (CANTT)/ BHU.
HOPE YOU HAVE A PLEASANT JOURNEY EXPERIENCE.
