Kumar, SHO, Chandigarh GRP, said of the three injured, Mukesh Jha, died at the hospital. Other two are still under treatment.
He further said injured Ravi was out of danger whereas doctors operated upon another injured, Sunil Kumar.
Meanwhile, the railways ground staff removed the iron pole on the crossing. It was learnt that two men were sitting on stairs of the coach when their feet hit the pole near the Sector 19 crossing. They held the other two men to avoid falling down but they all fell from the coach.
Terming the incident unfortunate, a senior railway official said passengers should not sit near the door of a train, which is against the rules. “The passengers should stay away but in the present incident, the passengers were sitting on the staircase, leading to the mishap,” he said.
As per information, the Railways is probing whether the iron pole had any role in the accident.
Families blame Railways
Families of the deceased blamed the Railways for the incident. While interacting with the media, Mukesh Jha’s brother Sonu Jha said overcrowding in the train led to the accident and the Railways was responsible for his brother’s death. “The Railways cannot shrug off its responsibility,” he said.
