Hello fellow IRIans. If details of train travel in the United States intrigues you by any magnitude, you may want to follow this blog as I plan to bring about live updates of my maiden train journey aboard the Amtrak (AMerica-TRAcK) this week.
I'd start off in the town of Cincinnati, Ohio on the 9th of December, 01:40 local time (9th Dec 12:10 hrs IST) on board Cardinal #51. This train runs between New York and Chicago (via Washington DC, Cincinnati and Indianapolis). The scheduled arrival of the Cardinal at Chicago will be 10:00 hrs on the same day (21:30 hrs IST).
After...
more... a buffer of 4 hours, I plan to board the second longest train of the country, The California Zephyr #5, all the way to Emeryville, San Francisco. This 3900 kms (2438 mi) journey (through what they call the most scenic route of the country) is expected to be 52 hours long as the scheduled arrival at Emeryville is 16:20 on December 11th (Dec 12, 05:50 IST).
Hoping the trip to pan out as expected and make up for the void of missing IR.
