Centre delaying rail projects in State: Kharge (Specially for Gulbarga)
Former Railway Minister and Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Railway Ministry and the Union government of deliberately delaying all the pending works sanctioned by the previous UPA government in the State. He said that although Karnataka was the only State which shares the cost in many railway projects, the Union government was “waiting for elections” to take up the projects, he alleged.
Mr. Kharge told The Hindu said that the project to extend the...

The land required for the project from the now closed Minerva Mills and the land from the BBMP has been acquired and handed over to the railways, yet the work of extension is yet to be taken up.
Charging the Union government with purposefully neglecting and delaying railway projects in Karnataka, particularly in the Hyderabad Karnataka region, Mr. Kharge said that as promised the Kalaburagi-Bidar new railway line was not inaugurated in August this year. During the tenure of the UPA government 80 per cent of the work on the line was completed and a one-year target was given to complete the remaining work when he was the Railway Minister. However, even after three-and-a-half years, the project is yet to be completed.
Similarly, the Kalaburagi Railway Division sanctioned during his tenure has not seen the light of the day even after three-and-a-half years of NDA government rule. No valid reason is being given for delaying the project by the government. The Gadag-Wadi new railway line too has been delayed. The State government has handed over land to lay 50 km. of railway line but nothing has been done so far to execute this project, he alleged.
He accused the Union government of starving funds to railway projects in Karnataka. Many trains which were passing through Kalaburagi have been diverted for various reasons. He said that the doubling and electrification of the Wadi-Solapur railway line sanctioned by the UPA government has also been delayed and deprived of funds.
