If a train leads to reschedule by more than 10 Hours, then which is better? Rescheduling by more than 10 hours or cancelling the train???
I think Cancelling the train is good for next trip of train coz it will be on time.

10-16 hrs re-scheduling is ok at times.
But more than 16 hrs late cancelling is better for a daily service.

Of course rescheduling. Lots of people are directly/indirectly dependent on a trip of a train. Besides, if a train is rescheduled more than 3 hrs then IR is liable for a full refund for a passenger willing to cancel.

Any short route train (overnight ones) with one side journey time less than 10 hours, can still be rescheduled as the resulting rescheduling chain won't last long.
Cancellation of longer route trains should be done if the delay is equal to/or more than the difference of resting time at destination station and minimum time required for primary maintenance. e.g. 14055/56 BP Mail rests at Dibrugarh for 19 hours. Considering that CDO Dibrugarh will require 6 hours for maintenance of BP Mail, the maximum delay that should be allowed for BP Mail from Delhi, should be 19-6=13 hours. Moreover, average delay of train can also be included here.

think a good solution for IR is to have standard rake composition for different type of trains. I mean superfast trains can have a standard 24 rake composition with fixed number of AC, Sleeper and General Coaches in all trains. Same for Shatabdi and Rajdhani type trains. By doing this, delay of trains can be reduced as Railways can keep buffer rake(say X) to be used for one train(say 1 UP), and then the rake of corresponding link train(1 Down) can be used for other train (say 2 UP).

As passenger are liable to get full refund after 3hrs, its passenger choice whether to travel or not. Rescheduling train will not effect the passengers who are willing to travel

* Rescheduling may be good or bad depending how much cushion time the rake have in the yard. * IF it has a cushion time of 6-7 yrs it should be rescheduled and return trn shall depart 3-4 hrs late
* if 10 late running means late departing by 10hrs, then effort should be done to arrange spare rake to ensure timely departure of the return train.
* Else cancelling may be right step to set punctuality right.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
