Many people have their livelihood dependent on Railways. This includes those who travel in suburban Railways and pay only 36% of the actual fare (remaining subsidized). Imagine how much Railways bear in suburban services of Mumbai and Kolkata!
While for 3AC ticket, you still pay 60% of the fare, most of the segment traveling in that class are middle class people. If I am not wrong, most of the earnings come from superfast and express trains which are slower and not that comfortable.
I am shocked why is IR not implementing non-fare revenues...

रेलवे को चाहिए कि नेताओं और उनकी पार्टियों को मिलने वाले फ़्री पास बंद हों । उनके लिए कोई विशेष कोटा भी न हो हाँ सेना के शहीदों की विधवा के लिए उनको आजीवन फ़्री रेल यात्रा करने की छूट मिले ।

let me describe u diff kya hota hai ... netao ko pehle hi TA(travel allowence) mil jata hai arnd 2 lakh rupees or more than this.. for d whole year... ab wo chaahe kaise b use kre.. or nhi b use kre tb they have d money...tatkl vip quota this dt special seats .. special coaches .. special stops even for rajdhanis...jaise baap ki train ho.. no tax in salary.. but for d employeed.. saal me ek baar hi TA mil skta hai wo b rank k hisab se categorised hai .. plus those having d pass like my dad (who is an war disabled president police medal for gallantry winner ) allowed for 2 ac .. nd dat too only for 4 months pre planned ya fir seats available hui tb .. only dad along with a companion.. salary me tax .. ye tax wo tax...
