ELASTIC FARES ON RAILWAY TABLE
The railway ministry is seriously considering dynamic prising of upper class passenger fares to improve its finances.
“Dynamic prising and rationalisation of passenger fares for those travelling from ACIII upwards are under consideration. But there would be no increase in the fare of sleeper and general class passengers, ” railway minister DINESH TRIVEDI said.
A fare increase of between...
more... Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 could be considered for sections of passengers who can afford to pay, he said.
In the dynamic pricing model, fares would change with variation in diesel prices, increased demand on a route, during peak season and for popular trains.
Trivedi said he would consult party SUPREMO Mamata Banerjee “for guidance on the issue before taking any decision”. Please note that consulting the Union Cabinet or the PM is a mere formality which can be dispensed with.
The Indian Railways has been following the dynamic pricing policy for freight rates.
