Actually, restoration of deleted accounts was absolutely ruled out, when the button was introduced. There are double Confirmation boxes, to avoid accidental clicks. Even so, we have occasional requests where members quit IRI for some reason, and then later wished to come back. It takes extra effort to investigate and restore deleted accounts, but it has been done. The difficulty in restoration is also for a reason. We do not wish to make this a routine process. We do not wish to make IRI a revolving door where people quit and rejoin - no other site does this, and it is highly discouraged. In fact, when members logout and choose not to log back in, then they have "effectively quit" the site. Deletion of account needs to be done only if a member has FIRMLY decided to never come back (for their own reasons).
