No. They are just locos designed to work in both DC and AC traction. As such, these were designed specifically for CR and WR, which had a mix of AC and DC traction and were not needed anywhere else in the country. CR initially had DC traction till Igatpuri and AC traction after that till Bhusaval and diesel traction beyond that, towards Itarsi. This necessitated a loco change at Igatpuri from AC to DC. So, instead of using separate DC and AC locos, CR used the WCAM locos to run the trains all the way till Bhusaval, before switching over to diesel traction for the onward journey. To this day, a few trains get WCAMs all the way till ET, from where they switch to diesel or regular AC locos.
