stations are very high. They are charging as per 3 star or 5 star hotels rates it appears.
Definetly they are not for common man. At every or important stations, there may be some good hotels with that rate.
If a single earning member with his family orders a food for Lunch or Dinner, he has to shell out nearly Rs.1200/- for just one time meal for 4 memners of the family.
For two times a day in train he has to sheel out Rs.2400/- beside other charges.
Even IRCTC for eg. on ther Menu at Hyderabad, if one sees, the Menu is so high that just a Single Thali is around Rs.350/-.
Before pricing such high rates, the caterers and IRCTC should understand that a passenger cannot eat comfortably as in Star Hotels or AC hotels, besides unaffordable high rates.
They give food in some packs, which are not strong enough to keep on lap and eat. Except window seat passengers, other cannot have side fold-able table etc.
Due to this reason still food sellers at platforms thrive.
I think Railway authorities should invite caterers who can prepare and distribute food at different stations, but who are hoteliers, but just only caterers with minimal over head or
other establish charges, so that they can supply at reasonable rates, so that a family can order happily. Hoterliers etc charge more taking intot their establish charges or brand names.
I think passenger must have choice according his status and affordability.
