(1) Setting traction alternator (modern 3 phase technology) factory is an achievement.
(2) Capacity augmentation is a usual process normal jump would have been from 200 to 225 locos, 250 is bigger than usual jump. But the real jump is required for manufacture of electric loco which are in short at present. Many trains are being hauled by diesel locos in electrified sections. With increased pace of electrifcation, a quantum jump is required for production of electric loco.It is time for DLW to export locos and earn profits/foreign exchange.
(3) Forged wheel factory...
more... at Raebareli, this factory should have been located with an integrated steel plant for easy and cost effective production. No special technology and not the best location.
(4) IGBT based 3 phase propulsion is a technological achievement subject to condition that its techno-economic performance is comparable to the global bench marks.
The some of the best "make in India initiatives" for Indian Railways which I dream about are:
(1) Manufacture of Very HHP 9000/12000HP energy efficient electric loco, VHHP 6000/8000 diesel loco
(2) Manufacture of ultra light weight Al body coaches with 250/350 kmph speed potential-with tilting tecnology and Double Decker variant
(3)Development, Construction of state of the art Roll On Roll Off rake for loading loaded trucks, cars etc
(4) Design and manufacture of high capacity low tare weight wagons of different types with speed potential of 110 kmph in loaded condition (highest speed I know fo loaded freight train)
(5) Manufacture of hardware and development of software for communication and signalling systems.
(6) Manufacture of Bullet train track materials, rakes, &signalling/ communication equipments.
(7) Manufacture of state of the art machines and devices pertaining to maintenance & construction of trackslike Track recording cars, Track laying/ maintenance machines, Large cranes, tunnel boring machines etc.
(8) Study & settingupof R&D facilities for "State of the art Rly" technologies under development like Maglev trains with emphasis to bring down the costs.
(9)Last but not the least, development and most effective implementation of (Management Information System) ERP system in Indian Railways integrating all the activities Technical /non technical, of all departments which can facilitate putting all the resources ofIRys into best possible use.
